These poems were written by two families, namely the De Four and De Four-Howard, with the exception of one who was a former student of the principal author. These poems are grounded in life experience and fantasy spanning over the years from 1990 to 2020. Chronologically, for some of the poets, these reflections are the result of experiences during high school, university and subsequent years. For the principal author, the reflections and introspections were not only based on family life.
Lastly the sad and dark experience of Covid-19 and racialism in the USA brought tears to the sad, old eyes almost daily, for such a long stretch of time, that it also prompted the writings of the principal author. The corona virus, as I write (2024) is still present and depressing. And yet, to think that open acts of racialism could be coupled with this pandemic is unimaginable but real. The menta¬¬l life of black men and women. These experience were reflected in the poems Tears in My Eyes 1,2, and 3.
Poems like I Remember When and the Villainy You Teach were reflections of childhood experience by two authors who lived in different eras. Love and romance were also popular features in poems like Yuh Women and Secret Thoughts. Innovations and being in touch with reality can be felt in poems like Money, Modesty, Materialism and What does the World look Like. Onward to the Century and Natural and Manmade are realistic comparisons of life, while Bones is purely fictitious and funny.
This poem book does not only provide entertainment with its funny fictional poems, but helps one to develop personal philosophies of life and lays a foundation for edification in some basic areas. The intention of the poets is to draw attention on issues that are social, spiritual and psychological; while elevating knowledge and fostering the love for poetry.
